No-Sew Batik Face Mask

Most of us are wearing face masks when we go out in public now.
We have an easy face mask tutorial using our knit batik fabrics. No sewing required.

The fabric is soft against our faces. We love the feel of it.
A bonus, there is no need to finish seams, as knit does not ravel.

Supplies Needed:
Knit Batik Fabric (.38 yard of our 72" wide Knit Batik Fabric will make 8 Masks)
Scissors
Ruler
Chalk or pencil for marking

Step 1-Find the one-way stretch (biggest stretch) of the fabric

Step 2- Cut the Knit Batik Fabric into 9" x 12"pieces.
***NOTE- 9“ cut needs to be along One-way Stretch (Biggest Stretch)***

This size was ideal for us but may need to adjust for the best fit for your face.

Step 3- Fold in half to create a 6" x 9" rectangle.

Step 4- Fold the bottom up (opposite the fold) about ½”. This will create a pocket for a filter.

Step 5- Fold each of the short sides, cut quarter-inch slits evenly spaced along the fold
(we cut ours ½” apart). This creates holes on the sides of your mask to insert the cords.

Step 6- To create the cords, cut two pieces about 1” x 10” of knit fabric from your scraps. Pull the strips, they will become skinny and stretchy like shoelaces.

You can adjust the size of your cords for how you plan to wear your mask.

Step 7- Weave the cords through the holes on both sides of your mask.

Step 8- Pull the cords tight at each end to gather the fabric.

Then you can either tie cords to form ear loops or tie behind your head.

Inserting Filter- If you wish to add a filter simply open bottom fold and insert.

A cloth face covering may not protect the wearer, but it may keep the wearer
from spreading the virus to others. -cdc.gov/coronavirus

Your cloth face covering should:
✔ Reach above the nose, below the chin, and completely cover the mouth and nostrils
✔ Fit snugly against the sides of the face
✔ Be made of multiple layers of fabric that you can still breathe through
✔ Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damaging the material or shape

Stay Safe.
