The No-Sew Scarf

The holidays are fast approaching and it's time to start thinking about what gifts you're going to give this season. Nothing warms my heart more than receiving a thoughtful gift that was made with love! Even if you don't consider yourself a crafty person, I have the perfect DIY holiday gift for you to make - the No-Sew Knit Scarf. Here's the deal with this scarf: it requires no sewing, minimal experience with fabric, 30 minutes of your time, and little expense!

All you need is a measuring tape, chalk, scissors, and 3/8 yd of 72" wide knit fabric.
I'm using my Knit Batik for this DIY project, the color shown is Black and White Gala.
Before we begin I must emphasize: DO NOT PREWASH YOUR FABRIC!!!

All that's missing is a hot cup of cocoa!

Step 1: Using 3/8 of a yard of 72 inch wide knit fabric (that you didn't prewash 😊 ), iron flat 9 inches on each short end of fabric.

Step 2: Cut off the selvages - these are the pre-finished ends of the fabric that prevent it from unraveling or fraying. Knit is a great fabric because it is resistant to unraveling and fraying!

Step 3: Measure 7 inches up from each end and mark a line across with chalk. This step is demonstrated in the image below.

Step 4: Now we're going to make the fringe! Measure and draw a line with your chalk pencil every 1/2 inch on the 7 inch mark that you made in the previous step. This step is shown below.

Step 5: Cut along each marked line from the edge up to the 7 inch mark. This is shown below.

Step 6: Repeat the above steps to complete the fringe on both short ends.

Step 7: Now it's time to wash and dry the scarf!

This scarf really is the perfect gift because it's so easy to make, and it looks amazing in any color or motif you want! Here is an example of the scarf using my Knit Batik in Purple Garden Phlox

I know I'll be making a few of these as gifts for my friends and family this season - and I'll be keeping one for myself!

Happy Sewing!
