My interview with Christine: An Outstanding Quilt Artist

This week I was delighted to spend time interviewing Christine, who is a remarkable and very accomplished quilter.
Christine began sewing at 6 years old using her mothers treadle machine.  Later she learn more about sewing from her class in Home Ec. during high school. She took her first quilting class and learned a lot about quilting techniques. During this time she was also working full time as an RN and was raising her family.  It was another 10 years before she made her first sampler quilt. Sometimes life just gets in the way!
Fast forward another 10 years when Christine's love of fabric really took hold as she began working part time at a Quilt Shop.  She made numerous traditional quilts during this period of her life. Below are a few her quilts that show her expertise.

By 2011 she was working part time at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA. She donated a Quilt named " Tree of Life" to the Hospital, which still hangs in the lobby.  After working at Providence for almost 44 years, Christine retired in 2012. Yay! More time to quilt!

While checking out Quilting Blogs online, Christine found one that really spoke her- Marveles Art Studio-Leslie McNeil.  Leslie's collage quilts really inspired her on a new path from traditional quilting to collage quilting.

Christine has become such a prolific collage quilter in the years since her discovery of the artform. She has donated many to fundraisers and is in the process of deciding what to do with her extensive collection.
(lucky for me, she is selling some of them on our Indonesian Batiks website)

Finally, Christine says she is grateful to her mom for instilling such a love of fabric and creating art.
She says, for herself, "Quilting equals Joy".

Happy Quilting!
