Gorgeous DIY Batik Handbag

The holiday gift DIY I'll be showing you today is so perfect that you may just make one for yourself as well. This tote-style handbag, called the Hanalei Handbag, is from Pink Sand Beach Designs. It boasts many pockets - three on the outside, and six on the inside! While it makes a beautiful purse, it can be used many ways: for your knitting or craft supplies, a trip to the library or your book club, you could even add insulation to the inside, a zipper, and it's the perfect lunch bag!

This bag is also a great way to use our 12" x 12" Batik Paintings. The front of the bag features a zippered compartment and a Cat Batik Painting. The opposite side, shown below features a different Cat Batik Painting of the same style and two pockets. The fabric used for the exterior and handles is my Cotton Batik in Kaleidoscope

The inside of this bag has SIX pockets - that's amazing! For the inside lining, I would recommend using a lighter colored fabric because it makes it easier to see the contents of your bag. This handbag was lined with my Cotton Batik in Summer Jewels

The pattern had the option to add a magnetic snap closure, which I added, but it's not required. The final measurements for this bag are 15.5" wide at the top by 11.5" tall by 4" deep. Additionally, the straps can be made to any length - it's all by preference.

Plan on making one for your BFF? There are so many different ways to personalize this bag - check out my online store and browse through my collection of Batik Paintings for inspiration! Here a few that would make beautiful handbags:
